Become a label reading detective. The USDA and FDA do have regulations that prevent products from claiming to be organic unless they meet certain criteria. However, food companies are highly skilled at marketing and often deliver misleading information to consumers.
"Organic" and "Made with Organic Ingredients" really means 95% and 70% of the ingredients are organic, respectively. The remaining could be synthetic chemical additives.
"All-Natural" is similar to "100% juice". A beverage may claim to be 100% apple juice, but this does not mean it is the only ingredient. It can also contain high-fructose corn syrup, sugar, or other ingredients.
"Free Range and "Hormone Free". A package may contain these words, but it does not mean the animal was raised or fed according to USDA-FDA organic regulations. (Please read egg cartons carefully before purchasing, the information can be deceptive.)
Shop at your local farmer's market and ask the farmers how they grow their crops. They may grow organically, but cannot afford the organic certification. Know where your food is coming from. About a year ago I was shopping at a store in my area that calls itself a farm market. I bought some snowpeas, and when I got them home, the receipt said "China". Please shop carefully-I no longer buy any produce from this store.
